Gila Wild & Scenic River

The M.H. Dutch Salmon Greater Wild and Scenic River Act would protect over 400 water miles of the Gila and San Francisco Rivers and their tributaries by designating them as Wild and Scenic, keeping them free-flowing and safeguarding water quality for downstream communities. The bill would support rural livelihoods by protecting grazing, hunting, fishing, and traditional uses while attracting outdoor recreation. By preventing new dams and major federal water projects in the corridor, it would secure a more reliable water future for families, farms, and communities in southern New Mexico and Arizona.
